Chapter 820 Review - Marco The Phoenix

Wow there really was an overload of important clues and information disclosed by Oda sensei in chapter 820. Not that we dislike it; on the contrary, we love it! I believe the most important piece we got from this chapter is the clash between Marco The Phoenix and the The Black Beard Pirates which resulted in: 1) the defeat of Marco, and 2) Marshall D Teach being labeled as a Yonko. That's something I definitely wanna hear more about just like the clash between Aokiji and Akainu that also resulted in the defeat of Aokiji and his defection to the Black pirates.

Let's get down with the review of the chapter!
I. Duke Inuarashi and Master Nekomamushi Were With Gol D Roger and Whitebeard

I definitely suspected that both Inuarashi and Nekomamushi spent sometime aboard the Oro Jackson. I even guesstimated that they haven't been to Raftel, just a wild guess that ended up right! But we also learn in this chapter that Lord Eden spent sometime aboard the Moby Dick as well, reason why him and his retainers befriended the whitebeard pirates. Which brings us to the second lengthy part: their connection with Marco the Phoenix.

II. Marco The Phoenix
Let me say that Marco, his former captain, Ace, Inu and Neko, and Shanks are among thee characters who stole the spotlight as soon as they were introduced.
As the Gorousei suggested right after the war of the summit, entities capable of stopping Blackbeard were Marco and other Yonkos. The end of the war smelled revenge somewhere. The chapter touched on the "Payback War" in which Marco was defeated. At this time no one (?) knows what occurred to him after that incident except 2 things:
  1. The former Whitebeard captains disbanded
  2. Marco is still alive!...what?!
Did the Whitebeard captains disappeared/disanded?
Well, I think they disbanded. I'm pretty sure that's because Marco was feeling the guilt for not being able to protect neither Ace nor his captain Whitebeard during the Marine Ford war. After all he was the captain of the 1st division, perhaps Whitebeard's first nakama. If you think about it, it truly is devastating. Losing both Ace and Whitebeard only to lose again against the guy who started it all--Marshall D. Teach.

Whitebeard Pirates: All Captains
Where is Marco?
Marco must be feeling under the weather right now. That low feeling when you can't get a damn job despite having spent years and years racking up degrees  and a perfect GPA (that's a personal punch line, catch the drift).

802: Whitebeard Jr. Going After Marco
My guess is that Marco decided to give up on life as a pirate. I had that feeling back in chapter 802 where Shichibukai Edward Weeble (Whitebeard Jr)'s mom said : "We'll put him out of his misery". Though I didn't know about the skirmish with Blackbeard, it made sense that Marco became a sort of recluse after the war.
That's likely the reason why Duke Inu and Master Neko suspects he might refuse to join them during the next big fight against Yonko Kaidou. But I think he will ended up joining forces! Getting the opportunity to help the late Ace's younger bro will definitely sheer him up.

As to where Marco is, I bet 2 cents that he might be on the island where Whitebeard and Ace are buried. And strangely enough, I think Edward Weeble might join Marco to fight BlackBeard once again. Of course I don't believe a minute that he is Whitebeard's true heir LOL. But since he believes that to his core, he will no doubt take action in paying back Blackbeard (chapter 802 for that reference).

How was Blackbeard able to defeat Marco and the Captains?
I thought it was exaggerated when Teach became a Yonko right after the war. Although he was on the hunt for strong devil power users, and had bunch of nasty Level 6 prisoners with him, I didn't think it was enough for him to be considered a Yonko. However, the fact that one whole year has passed before he defeated Marco, and after taking over Whitebeard's old turfs, the story now holds water.

But I wonder if Aokiji participated in  the "Payback War". Yes, Teach had both the Gua Gura No Mi (Quake Quake) and his Yami Yami No Mi (Dark Dark), but Marco's power was nothing to sneeze at either. If Aokiji took part in it, I can easily see why Marco lost. I have a theory about Aokiji's actions here.

III. Luffy is finally Hearing The Voices of All Things

Not the first time he hears voices, but it seems he can clearly hear it now. Very few people heard the voice of all things. Gol D Roger, Lord Eden, and Monosuke all did. I wonder if is a fourth type of Haki that only one in a billion can access it!?  Nothing interesting too-exciting here really, just that Luffy bears an uncanny resemblance to the previous KOP!
As for the source of the voice, I think it belongs to the elephant.

Well that's pretty much the most important points from this chapter. The rainman is dropping new theories in my head: speculating about the possible ulterior motives of Aokiji joining the Blackbeard Pirates, and the very soon  return of Jinbei!.
