One Piece Chapter 827: Alice In Totland Wonderland

Totland, Big Mom's Territory
Another week, another One Piece. Since there was not much action in it, I will try to make this one a quickie.

Totland
Luffy and his group landed on one of the 34 islands that make up Totland. At its center, Cake Island, is where Big Mom's headquarters are situated. This island is entirely made up of chocolate, sweets, and all the goodies which will make you a partner with diabetes. The Island is under the rule of a certain Chancellor Chocolate.

Wonderland
Just like Dressrosa, the make up of its citizens quickly stand out at the first glance. Totland is comprised of people of all races. From what I noticed, there are:
-Long leg tribes
-Long neck tribes
-Merfolks and Fishmen
-Minks
-Dwarves (Tontatta tribes?)
-Smaller than dwarves
-And a bunch of weird looking things most likely given life by Big Mom's powers.

Interestingly, Big Mom wants a country that is discrimination-free, xenophobia-free, and free of racism. Once again, Oda-sensei subtlety touches on real life issues. Remember Fishmen versus Humans? Malcom X vs MLK Jr? This seems to be a pun directed to the rise of far right groups across the globe lately. Something worrisome for the future of this beautiful planet.

Alice in Wonderland
Ever since we saw Sanji aboard Big Mom's ship, the theme of the characters resembled the world of Alice in Wonderland. But now this chapter delivers the confirmation that the entire arc is so. Come on son: the Tea Party, the Playing Cards, The Cook (Sanji), and the Duchess (Big Mom) were dead giveaways.

Nami, Alice, or Rebecca?

First of all, we see Nami in her new outfit. I almost mistook her for Rebecca. For proof, look at this picture.

But the question now becomes: is Nami representing Alice in the story?
You tell me, I don't recall much of Alice's story. That should be my homework before the end of this arc.

Pudding Meets The Straw Hats
Lady Pudding
And the tasty cafe Luffy and co ate belonged to none other than Lady Charlotte Pudding, Sanji's bride to-be. She seems to be a very nice girl. She is sweet, generous, and was kind to cover for Luffy and co before they got deeper into trouble.

She travels with a (Aladdin or Ali Baba)'s flying carpet, Labiyan, and a jelly-like creature by her side, Nitro. The Carpet, and much like everything else such as the Singing Ship, the flowers, the walls, the doors, abstract objects, and even the sun, have all eyes and mouths--and sing! I bet that's due to Big Mom's powers.

Sanji is in for a surprise when he meets her. It won't surprise me if Luffy invites her to join the team just so that she can bake the sweets.

Pedro's Undercover Minks
A moment that raised eyebrows was when one of Chocolate Island's Minks recognized Pedro. I didn't feel anything wrong with the picture though. The way he was excited to see him might signals that the  Minks have either:
  • some undercover Minks keeping an eye on Big Mom, or more likely Pekoms. They must be a type of sleeping cell.
  • some Minks who could have been exiled. Perhaps for being too dangerous or sneeky like Pekoms was...or not.

Big Mom

Le Pays Des Merveilles
Last but not least, Big Mom finally makes a full appearance. We are now able to see how the Lady Yonko truly looks like from head to toe. She is:
  • huuuuuge! must be ready for her daughter's Greek Fat Wedding :)
  • a happy psycho dancing woman who would kill for her food if necessary.
  • always singing with her weird beings.
  • impatiently waiting for the Tea Party and will kill anyone who dares to refuse to attend it.
  • based on the looks of The Duchess from Alice's story
On  one of the frames, we see the shadows of other fighting members beside destroyed towns. They were tasked to obtain flour, eggs and fruits. They are perhaps on the same level as Pekoms and Tamago--Bonsoir! The tea party will be quite mouvementé.

So Big Mom is already aware of Luffy's presence on her island. I don't know if it's due to her Yonko level Haki or her unknown Devil Fruit Power which might have given life to everything on the island.

She said something very scary though: "It will be a sweet day with a devilish sacrifice!"

Now if I didn't know anything better by now, I'd say she was just singing Kumbaya. But I think she was referring to none other than our  Straw Hat Captain. Remember the "Call From The New World"? back in chapter 651. Big Mom is impatiently waiting for Garp's grandson to kick his rookie behind. Let's just hope that Luffy doesn't end up in the same state as Kidd. Afterall, the Yonkos are nothing to be sneezed at!
