If you noticed, Law seemed to always have an admiration for Luffy. Not on the same level as Bartolomeo, but just a simple respect for Dragon's son. Perhaps, he has experienced something while young, or it has to do with his knowledge of "D".

| 591: 'D' will certainly call up a storm again |
Back in chapter 591, Law expressed: " 'D' will certainly call up a storm again". I first thought that he was referring to Luffy's unique style of being a trouble magnet. However, he actually referred to 'D'.
138 chapters later (wow, I've been following this manga for quite a while now), in chapter 729 - Law told Doflimengohe trusts Luffy because: "'D' will definitely bring another storm!"
He seems to be familiar with the letter D. As a suggested earlier, perhaps the Kora-san told him about it, or Kora was himself bearer of the letter "D". See my theory about Kora-san.
Also, we know that the letter "D" is closely tied to the origins of the World Government. Law knew about the world government's experiments to turn humans into giants - even Robyn wasn't aware of this.
Keeping with 'D', he's probably one of the few people who know what's about to happen in the future when the heirs of
Gol D. Roger come to carry on his (along with Ace's, and all D's) will.

He could have easily lied to save both his life and title. Yet, Law is true to himself, he spoke the truth leaving total faith in Luffy and the Straw Hats.

| 724: Will you underestimate the Straw Hats like countless many? |
In 724, Law seems to also be aware of the Straw Hats' numerous successes throughout the series. Law strongly believes that Luffy and the Straw Hats are the 'real' deal. Just like himself, the Straw Hats, the 11 rookies from the worst generation of supernovas; they should not be underestimated!
Nonetheless, Law seems to only trust Luffy among the other supernovas. Let's see how the Dressrosa arc finish!

I doubt there was any evil motive behind Law rescuing Luffy in the Battle of the Summit (Marine Ford).

Anyhow, Luffy believes Law is a good dude. So far, we haven't seen Luffy likes someone then hates them later on. (rectify if i'm wrong). The respect seems to be mutual. We know at least that Law is the second official ally of the Straw Hats (after Jimbei)!

Also, regarding that fight, it should be noted that Law is not a weakling. We first have to remember he was holding his ground against two beats: The purple tiger (Fujitora, the new admiral) and Doflimango! There was no way he could have survived that fight. When he escaped, his power level was already just way too deplated to fight an all out battle with Doflimango.
In sum, Law is the new ally of the Straw Hats; unless Oda decides to trick us at the end of the Arc.

Which Theory Was Right?
I will update this section once Oda sensei opens Pandora's box
- Well as of Chapter 763 that Law is a D as well. But I was not wrong when I wrote that Kora-san (Corazon) was the one who informed him [a little bit] about the clan of D.
- Also, Corazon was none other than Doflimengo's own little brother. He was killed by Mingo while protecting Law (I said something similar to that in my first theories).
